Money Saver: First weekend of every month, Raleigh book warehouse opens for dollar book sale
A Raleigh book warehouse off Atlantic Avenue opens its doors once a month to sell books for one dollar each.

RALEIGH (WTVD) -- A Raleigh book warehouse off Atlantic Avenue opens its doors once a month to sell books for one dollar each.

"It's the first weekend of every month, and, so we usually try to come on Friday mornings," said Sabrina Swann.

Swann is a mother of two boys, so, it is all about the children's books.

"It's great because books are expensive," said Swann.

But, that is not the case at The Dollar Book Exchange.

"Everything on the shelves is a dollar," explained The Dollar Book Exchange founder Ford Perry. "We have fiction, non-fiction, adult, and special children's books."

Outside of their once a month weekend sale, the Dollar Book Exchange keeps very busy.

"We process about 120 thousand pounds of used books a week," said Perry. "We get them by the tractor-trailer load and we sell some online."

The warehouse also buys textbooks and takes books for trade. For every two books you bring in that can be sold, you receive one book credit. It's a deal that is great for anyone on a budget.

"I like that they have a lot of commentary sets and things like that and religious reference works," said student Ken Baker.

"I'm looking for Christian books and other seminary books," said Nathan Moats. "I'm a seminary student at Wake Forest and so it's always a really good deal to come and get all these books for a dollar."

In addition to the dollar books, you can also fill a bag from about a dozen boxes of children's books for ten bucks.

"We provide the bags," said Perry. "They're kind of standard grocery bags and you can put as many as you can put in it."

Perry explained the books are especially useful for new schools.

"Local schools that have either just started up like charter schools have also used us to build their libraries. So, we're pretty proud that the kids are getting books."
