Stolen I-40 sign gone for good

wtvd

Tuesday, November 17, 2009
WILMINGTON The sign reads "Barstow, Calif. 2,554."

The DOT says the sign keeps getting stolen. The sign's four predecessors had been replaced, but this time the DOT says enough is enough.

For years, motorists could see the sign when heading west out of Wilmington. A similar sign is on I-40 East in California. It reads, "Wilmington, NC 2,554 mi."

Apparently, California also has dealt with thefts of its sign.
