More than 40 thousand answer school survey

RALEIGH

They intend to remove duplicate surveys before delivering the results to the school board at its next meeting in February.

So far, they've received:

  • 40,615 electronic surveys (690 in Spanish)
  • 362 paper surveys (expect more)
  • 840 Comments from tax payers without WCPSS students

The totals represent just under 30 percent of the families with students in Wake schools.

Parents answered questions like how satisfied they are with the current calendar at their child's school, which type of calendar they'd prefer, how far they'd be willing to travel for a school with the calendar of their choice, and whether they'd leave if their current school calendar changed.

Board members said the results of the poll will be used to plan school calendar assignments as early as the 2010-2011 school year.

The new board majority has pledged to end mandatory year-round school assignments.

But first, they want more input from parents. They've scheduled a series of public meetings:

  • 2/9 Holly Springs HS
  • 2/18 Heritage HS
  • 2/23 Leesville Rd HS
  • 2/25 Panther Creek HS

All meetings will be held from 6:30 p.m. to 9 p.m.
