An estimated 3,000 gallons of wastewater overflowed from a manhole on Industrial Drive Monday morning and into a tributary of Buffalo Creek.
Johnston County Department of Utilities said it reported the spill to the North Carolina Department of Natural Resources' Division of Water Quality.
