Officers were called to Cape Fear Valley Medical Center around 2:15 a.m. after 19-year-old William Earl Barnes III was taken into surgery. About two hours later, officials said Barnes died from his injuries.
Detectives said Barnes was shot overnight while in the 6800 block of Woodmark Drive in the Cliffdale West Subdivision.

Detectives from the Fayetteville Police Homicide Unit are still investigating the incident. Anyone with information is asked to contact Crimestoppers at (910) 483-TIPS (8477).
