Man seriously injured in Raleigh balcony fall

RALEIGH (WTVD) -- A man who lives near NC State's campus is fighting for his life after reportedly slipping on ice and falling 25 feet off a balcony.

The accident happened around 2 a.m. Tuesday at a complex at 719 Chamberlain Street in Raleigh.

The 29-year-old man was taken to WakeMed.

A Raleigh police spokesman told ABC11 that "there's a possibility the incident was weather related" and the man was "transported with what are believed to be serious injuries."

The building where it happened contains six apartments. There's a wooden staircase with two landings in back of the building, above the area in the yard where EMS workers were seen tending to the victim before transporting him to the hospital.

There were reports, not confirmed yet by police, that the steps were coated with ice at the time of the incident.

It's not clear yet how or why the man fell.
