Durham's Backyard BBQ Pit named best barbecue in North Carolina
DURHAM N.C. (WTVD) -- Coming to a consensus on where to find the best barbecue can be the stuff of great debate in North Carolina.
According to Yahoo Travel, the best barbecue in North Carolina can be found in Durham at Backyard BBQ Pit in Research Triangle Park.
The article cites the restaurant's sweet sauces, tender pork ribs, and pork chops as reasons why it was selected.
Don Cozart, with Backyard BBQ Pit, said the family owned and operated restaurant has been around for eight years.
"When people come here and eat at the restaurant it kind of reflects them; it gives them a taste of home," Cozart said.
He said the secret to their BBQ is that they smoke all their meats in a three-chamber smokehouse using hickory and oak wood.
"It's all in the method and it takes a little longer, but at the same time we're trying to achieve a superior taste, so that's really the key," Cozart said.
