LGBTQ+ bar transforms into food pantry every weekend

HOUSTON, Texas -- As Americans struggle with unemployment and underemployment, a Montrose LGBTQ+ bar has lifted up the community, offering food and household supplies for those in need.

It's called the Pride Pantry.

In the last year, they have helped hundreds of people get back on their feet, or have enough food to simply make it to the next week.

It is entirely volunteer-run, and they have a constant stream of donations. It's operated out of Barcode, with the food shelves on stage and along the walls where bar patrons are sitting.

Pride Pantry was recently honored by the City of Houston for their incredible work.

Organizer Joe Melton said, "You don't have to be part of a system, or get signed up. We just want to provide a space for you to come get what you need and give what you can."

The pantry is open inside Barcode Houston at 817 Fairview on Saturdays and Sundays between noon and 5 p.m.
