Serious crash shuts down southbound I-95 near Benson

BENSON, North Carolina (WTVD) -- The southbound lanes of Interstate 95 were shut down near Benson after a multi-vehicle crash just before noon Monday.

Pictures from Chopper 11 showed an SUV on its roof in the median and a tractor-trailer wrecked on the shoulder.

The North Carolina Highway Patrol said four vehicles were involved: the truck, an RV pulling a vehicle, and two passenger vehicles.

Two people were taken to the hospital with serious, but non-life-threatening, injuries.

The cause of the crash was under investigation. The highway reopened just after 1 p.m.
