One of the biggest winners from Super Bowl weekend was an unlikely one: Red Lobster.
After Beyonce dropped some suggestive lines referencing the seafood chain restaurant in her new video "Formation," sales blew up for Red Lobster.
The shout out happened Saturday night, when the music megastar debuted her video in surprise fashion. One day later, Beyonce would shine at the halftime show at Super Bowl 50.
A Red Lobster spokesperson said that the chain saw a 33 percent increase in sales Sunday.
"We are absolutely delighted with what we saw over the weekend, particularly the consumer sentiment that we saw expressed," said Kim Lopdrup, CEO of Red Lobster. "It's clear that Beyonce has helped create some Red Lobster fans, and we are very grateful to her for that."
Maybe a little too grateful, as this punny tweet showed:
Red Lobster got, well, shelled on Twitter for that attempt, but interest in the restaurant rose in multiple ways.
"We never expected to be such a hot topic of conversation, and are thrilled to learn that Beyonce and her fans love Red Lobster!" said Erica Ettori, a spokeswoman for the company. "This is a real testament to the power of pop culture on business."
