Bill Clinton headlines Kay Hagan fundraiser in North Carolina
CHAPEL HILL, N.C. -- Former President Bill Clinton visited North Carolina Tuesday to help raise money for Sen. Kay Hagan's re-election campaign.
Clinton arrived in Chapel Hill to headline a fundraising luncheon for the first-term Democrat. The event at The Carolina Inn was private and closed to the media.
Hagan spokesperson's Chris Hayden said the senator is "honored that President Clinton has offered to help with her campaign."
"She is happy to have him in North Carolina today," he said. "More than most people, President Clinton understands what it means to build an economy that works for everyone, and Kay is working everyday to do just that."
Hagan is running against Republican Thom Tillis.
Bill and Hillary Clinton's daughter, Chelsea, gave birth to her first child last Friday. The girl named Charlotte was born at a New York hospital.
Bill Clinton was elected president in 1992 and 1996 but failed to carry North Carolina on either occasion. Hillary Clinton is now considering a 2016 presidential bid.
