Blue Cross Blue Shield suffered a computer outage Thursday that has directly affected claims processing and customer service systems.
A Blue Cross Blue Shield spokesperson said the insurance giant is "aware of the situation and the restoration process is underway."
BCBS also said the outage was a "different issue" from the system failure that has plagued the company for much of 2016 and angered thousands of customers over billing and claims problems.
BCBS says the current outage should take 48 hours to correct.

The company said customers' coverage is not affected, and people should seek medical attention as usual.
BCBS said it is working with doctors, hospitals and pharmacies to make sure they are aware of the situation.
