Body found in trunk of car at Riverside Walmart identified

POMONA, Calif. -- The body found in the trunk of a car at a Walmart parking lot in Riverside has been identified Sunday as 33-year-old Miguel Perez.

Investigators were still unsure how Perez ended up in the trunk and were waiting for an autopsy report to determine how he died.

On Saturday, a woman returning home from work stopped at a Walmart in Riverside. She told police she noticed a stench in her car all day. When she opened her trunk, she found Perez's body.

Perez was an acquaintance from the woman's Pomona neighborhood. She didn't know how he turned up in her car, she told police.

The woman, who was not identified, is not considered a suspect, Pomona police said.
