UPS driver saves teen trapped when truck falls on head
SAN DIEGO -- A California teen survived a terrifying near-death experience, KSWB-TV reports.
Cameron King, 17, was rescued after a 5,000-pound truck fell on his head.
For a football-playing risk-taker, working on a truck seems to be one of the more mundane tasks in Cameron's life.
"I had my head under here. The car was up on the jack and then it just collapsed," he said.
Video shows the tons of steel dropping on to Cameron's head and shoulders. Using all the strength he could muster, cameron fought against the massive weight of the truck.
"That's when the UPS guy drove down the street because he heard my screams," King said.
Neighbors and a UPS driver scrambled to free Cameron, and then finally he slipped out.
"He held me with the jack," Cameron said.
Cameron's mother was at the store when the freak accident occurred and raced to her son.
"But I couldn't get to you fast enough either, and I was heartbroken because what I did hear Susan say is that you were screaming for help, and I wasn't here," mom Kimberly King said.
If Cameron's truck had fallen an inch one way or another, it would have ended him.
"The truck was on top of his head. I was pretty surprised. I saw the tire marks on the side of his face and swelling. He's a tough kid," said Rich Rinker, San Diego Fire Department.
The near-death experience has refocused Cameron on what is really important.
"I can't tell you how happy I am to be at school right now and to see all your faces, and I get to say that I'm the luckiest man alive," Cameron said.
