Chatham County man charged with murder after child dies

CHATHAM COUNTY (WTVD) -- Jeffery Scott Ferguson, 24, was arrested by authorities on Friday in Pullen Park in Raleigh.

On Dec. 5, UNC Hospital contacted the Chatham County Sheriff's Office about a potential case of child abuse where the juvenile victim died from their injuries.

Authorities said the abuse happened in the 100 block of Haywood Road in Moncure.

Ferguson was charged with murder and non-negligent manslaughter and felony negligent child abuse inflicting serious bodily injury.

He was taken to jail with no bond and is set to appear in court Jan. 4.

The Chatham County Sheriff's Office considers this an ongoing investigation.
