Fire damages downtown Fayetteville law office

FAYETTEVILLE (WTVD) -- A fire severely damaged a law office in the 200 block of Dick Street near the Cumberland County Courthouse in Fayetteville Monday evening.

It started around 6 p.m. with flames engulfing the Downing and Downing law firm. Much of the damage was to the roof and the second floor balcony.

Firefighters say the blaze was contained to the second floor and the front office but there is smoke and water damage on both floors.

There are no reports of injuries and no word yet on what caused the fire. Officials said the business had closed for the day when the fire was reported.
