NC Central football player shot in home near school's campus in Durham
DURHAM, North Carolina (WTVD) -- Durham police are investigating after an NC Central football player was taken to the hospital Sunday evening following a shooting near the university's campus.
It happened around 6:30 p.m. in the 400 block of Formosa Drive.
Police said the man was shot in the back while inside the home. He had surgery at the hospital.
ABC11 has confirmed the shooting victim is 22-year-old George McGue - a defensive lineman for the Eagles.
Investigators said they aren't sure what led up to the shooting. No arrests have been made.

McGue is a senior and moved the Formosa Street home a few weeks ago.
His roommates are not commenting on the incident.
Student Nasir Rahman describes McGue as a model student-athlete.
"He's a good guy," offered Rahman. "It's bad to hear that it was him."
Lloyd Phillips, who lives next door, said around 6:15 Sunday night, "I heard a sound like a pop. Didn't really sound like a gunshot cause it was kind of muffled."
Phillips said he feels the university should have done more after the shooting to keep the campus community safe. Central did not activate its emergency alert sirens.
Spokesperson Ayana Hernandez told ABC11 that officials believe it was an isolated incident and there was no immediate threat to the campus.
McGue was shot directly across the street from the school. Many students rent houses in the area.
"You students who live all around here," said Phillips. "So to say that it wasn't on their property is kind of like a slap in the face for those in that dorm."
