RALEIGH (WTVD) -- The mayors of Raleigh and Durham put on their masks tonight to help kids get a college education.
The UNCF, the United Negro College Fund, held a fundraiser for historically black colleges and universities at the Raleigh Convention Center Saturday night.
More than 500 business, civic, and education leaders were there and ABC11's Joel Brown was the master of ceremonies.
People at the ball said it's all about ensuring a quality education.
"I am a graduate of an HBCU and I know the value of providing funding," said Durham mayor Bill Bell. "And there's no question in my mind if you didn't have an organization such as UNCF, a lot of students who are in school now would not be there."
The goal was to raise $600 thousand which will go to support students at Shaw and Saint Augustine's Universities
"We do this because there are so many wonderful and generous people who will come together to have a lot of fun," said UNCF CEO Michael Lomax, "but also to reach deep in their pockets to help raise the dollars."
