Faith Hedgepeth's family marks birthday with social media campaign
CHAPEL HILL, N.C. (WTVD) -- Faith Hedgepeth's family marked what would have been her 22nd birthday Friday with a social media campaign asking people to post pictures of themselves holding signs saying "Justice For Faith."
It's been more than two years since the then 19-year-old UNC student was brutally murdered in her off-campus apartment in 2012.
An autopsy showed Hedgepeth was beaten to death. Her family says she was also raped.
Friday, Faith's older sister Rolanda - who was more like a mother to Faith - said she hopes social media will help find the killer.
"A lot of people have not forgotten, but there's still a lot of people who've never heard of her story. I mean, it's made national news, but there's still so many people who haven't heard her story," Rolanda explained.
Police have said they collected DNA belonging to the killer at the crime scene and also have a handwritten note that was left near the body.
There is over $40,000 in reward money available.
