Woman killed in crash with tractor trailer in Edgecombe County

EDGECOMBE COUNTY, N.C. (WTVD) -- An 18-year-old woman was killed Friday afternoon when her car collided with a tractor-trailer.

It happened around 3:45 p.m. on State Road 1109 and N.C. Highway 42 near Pinetops in Edgecombe County.

The State Highway Patrol said it appears that a vehicle driven by the woman ran a stop sign on Highway 42 and drove in front of the truck.

The driver was killed instantly. A 19-year-old passenger was flown to a hospital in Pitt County.

The truck driver was not injured.

Troopers are still investigating the crash.
