Missing Fayetteville Army veteran found on Appalachian Trail

FAYETTEVILLE (WTVD) -- A missing Fayetteville veteran has been located hiking on the Appalachian Trail.

The Cumberland County Sheriff's Office says it closed the case when detectives learned Michael Kirkpatrick's parents heard from him and sent him money and clothes.

Kirkpatrick was last seen on July 19. He was reported missing by his roommate, and loved ones describe him as suffering from PTSD.

In August, deputies in Madison County found Kirkpatrick's 2006 Scion in the Pisgah National Forest.
