Online school supply shopping with Build My Kit
Nationwide program is free for schools and allows parents one stop shopping for supplies while giving back to school.

Summer may just be heating up for traditional calendar students, but for year round students in North Carolina, it is time to track back in and head to class. For parents, that means back to school shopping.

"It's time consuming!" explained mother Natalie Plasencia. "The lines, the kids going crazy in the store. You know, all that stuff."

Susie Lucas, who is a mother of five agreed, saying, "It's a headache. Because every list has a specific thing and everybody is out there trying to get that one thing."

Lucas explained, "Once I get the list, it normally takes me about two weeks to get everything because the stores are always out of something."

But there is another option shoppers can add to traditional retailers for back to school items. It's an online program called Build My Kit, and it's free for schools to participate.

One of the benefits of Build My Kit is that with every kit that is sold, the school gets 10% back.

Any school in the nation can register. Teachers or administrators customize the back to school kits for each grade based on the supplies needed. Students or parents then log on, choose their school and buy their kit, which is sent directly to the school. As for price, on the website, Build My Kit touts supplies are offered at a lower cost than most major retailers.

However, the time it saves is key for busy moms like Susie Lucas and Natalie Plasencia.

"If I could do something online and know the quality of the stuff I'm going to get, yeah, I'd do it," stated Lucas.

Natalie Plasencia said she too would try it for the convenience.

"To keep me from going out, I probably would. Because, I hate going to crowded spaces and shopping."
