Helping Hand Mission in Raleigh gives out hundreds of backpacks to kids in need Wednesday

RALEIGH (WTVD) -- The Helping Hand Mission on Rock Quarry Road in Raleigh gave away about 400 backpacks and school supplies to children in need Wednesday morning.

The event was just one of the organization's three backpack giveaways this summer. They expect to give out about 1,000 backpacks in all.

The next giveaway is on August 18th at 11 a.m. at the mission's 623 Rock Quarry Road location. They expect to give out another 400-500 backpacks that day.

The Helping Hand Mission assists families with food, shelter, furniture and clothing. They're still in need of gently used clothing for children going back to school.
