DURHAM COUNTY (WTVD) -- A large sinkhole on the Redwood Road Bridge has closed the road where it crosses over Falls Lake in Durham County.
It wasn't immediately clear when the sinkhole developed.
After receiving an alert from an ABC11 Eyewitness, Chopper 11 HD flew over the area Friday and captured images of the sinkhole with safety nettings and traffic cones already in place to warn motorists.
Water could be seen inside the hole.
NCDOT spokesman Steve Abbott said incidents such as this one show why "it's very important to obey barricades."
Abbott said there are still more than 400 roads across North Carolina closed after Hurricane Matthew.
