RALEIGH, N.C. (WTVD) -- Police are investigating after human remains were found in Wake County Wednesday.

The investigation started when a skull was found near Rock Quarry Road and Old Baucom Road, according to Garner Police Chief Joe Binns.

A construction crew found the skull across the street from a construction site of a new subdivision.

After further investigation, more badly decomposed skeletal remains were found. Officials are not sure how long the skeleton has been in the area.

Garner police are investigating.

"Any time you find a skeleton it's suspicious until you find out otherwise," Garner Police Chief Joe Binns told ABC11. "Somebody is missing this person, someone who hasn't come back home."

Authorities said there was no immediate threat to the public.
