Woman killed in I-440 crash in Raleigh

RALEIGH (WTVD) -- Police say an elderly woman was killed in a crash that blocked the westbound lanes of Interstate 440 at Exit 2, near Western Boulevard, in Raleigh Tuesday morning.

Alice Bernice Barrett, 84, of Holly Springs, was the driver of one of the vehicles involved in the crash.

Police said Barrett veered into the path of a truck as she tried to exit the roadway. Her car then careened down an embankment.

The wreck was first reported about 10:15 a.m. The highway reopened just after 1:30 p.m.

No charges have been filed.
