Investigation: DPD actions justified in 2015 shooting
DURHAM (WTVD) -- Durham city leaders met Thursday during a closed work session to determine if they will release information from its internal investigation into the officers who shot a Durham man in 2015.
La'Vante Biggs, 21, was shot by Durham police officers when he came towards them with what appeared to be a gun. Police say the young man was suicidal and efforts by hostage negotiators to talk him into putting down the weapon failed.

Thursday's meeting was closed to the public and cameras were not allowed inside.
Biggs was shot five times by Durham Police during a standoff on September 6, 2015. Investigators say Biggs was threatening to commit suicide with a gun, which was later determined to be an Airsoft gun.

Based on the evidence in the case, District Attorney Roger Eckols determined the officers' actions were justified.
"I don't see a whole lot that could have been done differently, but I'm not armed with all of the facts to make that decision," Eckols stated. "I don't know everything that the police department had at its disposal"

City Manager Tom Bonfield says the city stands by the officers' actions.
"It's easy to say what could have been done differently, but at the same time it's a bit of a challenge, I think, for anyone to second guess," Bonfield said. "Particularly after you go through and see all of the evidence."
