DURHAM (WTVD) -- A celebration of the 150th anniversary of Juneteenth was held in Durham on Saturday.
Hundreds of people showed up on Main Street in front of the new Health Department for this year's event.
Juneteenth is the oldest-known celebration marking the end of slavery.
It began in Galveston, Texas when union soldiers finally arrived on June 19, 1865 to begin enforcing the then two-year old Emancipation Proclamation which freed the slaves.
R&B singer Christopher Williams and gospel artist Cynthia Jones were among the musicians performing at the Durham event.
