RALEIGH, N.C. (WTVD) -- Several weather alerts, including a Winter Storm Warning, remain in effect until Monday afternoon.

Saturday night, in Central NC, moderate to heavy mixed precipitation, mainly sleet and freezing rain started falling.

Most people awoke Sunday to the roads covered with the wintry mix.

Roads, especially bridges and overpasses, remain slick and hazardous.

Duke Energy had 18,000 workers staged across the Carolinas to respond to power outages.

Most school districts across central NC have already made decisions about how to handle Monday's snow day.

WCPSS announces remote instruction day, cancels extracurriculars Monday

Wake County Public Schools just announced Monday, Jan. 26 will be a remote instruction day for schools in session.

Monday is a teacher workday for tradition calendar schools. These students are not expected to do remote instruction this day.

Athletic and extracurricular events scheduled for Monday are also canceled.

NCDOT gives update on road conditions, progress

NCDOT held a media briefing Saturday morning to talk about the road conditions as the winter storm hits the region.

It's an all-hands-on-deck effort for transportation crews - spread out across the state looking to clear heavily-trafficked areas. Of course, much of that work was happening before the storm even hit - with pre-treatments.

350 flights canceled, 2 delays at RDU

There have been 350 flights canceled, as well as two delays, at RDU so far today, according to FlightAware, because of the winter storm.

Over 14,000 flights have been canceled nationwide since Saturday. Over 10,000 of those were scheduled for Sunday.

After sweeping through the South, forecasters said the storm was expected to move into the Northeast, dumping about 1 to 2 feet (30 to 60 centimeters) of snow from Washington through New York and Boston

Power outages reported in southern Wake County

Over 200 people are without power on Rock Service Station Road near Fuquay-Varina, according to the Duke Energy power outage.

There is no estimated time of restoration. Duke Energy said they are waiting for the storm to clear the area.
