FRESNO, Calif. -- A man wanted by Fresno police jumped from rooftop to rooftop, running from officers. That's after police say he threatened to kill a woman in that neighborhood.

It all happened Monday afternoon in the area of Wapoma and Andrews. That's near Shields and Brawley in West Central Fresno.

Police say once they had the parolee cornered in a home, he forced his way out onto the rooftop by kicking out a wood panel from the attic. Then the suspect climbed onto the roof and it appeared as though he was about to surrender, but then he took off running, jumping from house to house. Officers then chased after him.

What's even more frightening, police say, is that he threatened to kill a homeowner there. They say she went into the home not knowing he was inside. When she spotted him she hid in a closet. Police say he found her, dragged her out by her hair, and threatened to kill her while holding a weapon to her throat. The woman escaped without being hurt.

Officers used a Taser on the man and arrested him. He has been identified as 26-year-old Abel Rodriguez. Police say he is facing charges for kidnapping, running from officers, burglary and a list of other crimes.

Neighbors say they don't recognize the man, but apparently police were initially called there because he was going from yard to yard -- even asking one neighbor for a ride, saying he was on the run.
