If the Fall has you working on your yard and you are in need of mulch, the City of Raleigh's Yard Waste Center could help you stretch your dollar.
Until Oct. 31, the Yard Waste Center is holding a buy one get one free sale meaning whether you buy a bag or a truckload full, you get the same amount free on the same day.
"This mulch comes from all the residents and private haulers that bring material in," explained Raleigh Yard Waste Center Operations Superintendent Edward Wright. "We grind it up, it's a mixed mulch. It's not a particular hardwood or anything like that. But, it's mixed leaves, grass clippings, bush clippings, tree limbs-everything mixed up together and we mix it up real fine."
Wright says the mulch at the Yard Waste Center is regulated by the state to ensure quality.
"We are regulated by state regulators and we are required to let the mulch reach the temperature of 131 degrees for 3 days which kills all the pathogens and the weed seeds," he said.
Mulch prices run $2 a bag or can and $25 per 2 1/2 cubic yards, which can fill a truck bed.
The Yard Waste Center also sells compost and wood chips, however, only mulch is part of the BOGO promotion through Oct. 31.
The City's Yard Waste Center is located at 900 North New Hope Road and is easily accessible from U.S. 64 Bypass or New Bern Avenue/U.S. 64 Business. The Yard Waste Center is open from 7 a.m. until 4 p.m. daily, except Sundays.
