The start of the new year is a good time to shop for a deal at the North Carolina State Surplus Warehouse on Chapel Hill Rd. in Raleigh.
"Now is s a good time to come shopping - now and the springtime," explained State Surplus Property Officer Robert Riddle.
Deals range from leather computer bags for just $12, to cars up for auction, and even vending machines.
"The state budget ends in June, so now agencies will be emptying out their old and planning for the new budget buying new in the new year, so now is a good time to come out and look," Riddle said.
"You'll find a lot of things the state agencies are getting rid of now and through the spring," he said.
Trucks arrive daily at the warehouse from state agencies. Riddle says you never know what you will find being delivered.
"We sell everything the state is getting rid of, anything that's coming out of community colleges, universities, offices downtown, and all over the state," Riddle said.
"The kind of stuff we get in our warehouse is the kind of stuff that comes off the trucks everyday. You might see, chairs, desks, filing cabinets, tables, other odds and ends that come out of offices from labs," he said.
Cars are also auctioned off every Wednesday. Last year, about 3,000 cars were sold through the warehouse with a total of $21 million in sales overall.
