Car strikes and kills motorcyclist in Durham County

DURHAM (WTVD) -- A man riding his motorcycle was killed Thursday on Geer Street in Durham.

It happened around 4:45 p.m. near Burton Road, according to State Highway Patrol.

Troopers said a vehicle was traveling west and a motorcycle was traveling east on Geer Street.

The vehicle, driven by Jonathan A. Gonzalez Lopez, attempted to make a left and failed to yield to the motorcycle.

Troopers said Lopez hit the motorcycle, driven by Michael Lee Godwin.

Godwin, from Stem, was killed.

Lopez has been charged with misdemeanor death by motor vehicle. No alcohol is believed to be involved.
