NASHVILLE, NC (WTVD) -- Nash County Sheriff Keith Stone says five people have died of heroin overdoses in the past week.
It's an ongoing problem. Stone told the Wilson Times that he's seeing EMS workers called out at least three times a week for overdoses, and some die.
He explained that prescription drug addiction leads to snorting heroin which leads to injecting heroin. Overdoses happen frequently with injecting.
Stone is doing what he can. In 2015, there were 50 arrests in the county related to heroin.
"Heroin is killing people - good people," Stone told the Times. "It not only destroys the person who uses it, it affects everybody they are in contact with like their families."
