Girlfriend charged after man shot in face, deputies say

ROWAN COUNTY -- A man's girlfriend was charged after he was shot in the face Sunday, Rowan County Sheriff's Office said.

Deputies were called to a shooting near midnight Sunday on Barringer Street in Granite Quarry.

Justin Joyce, 22, had been shot in the face and was taken to a hospital in Winston-Salem for treatment.

Joyce's girlfriend, 23-year-old Cori Mayhew, was charged with felony assault with a deadly weapon with intent to kill inflicting serious injury.

Mayhew was placed in jail and received no bond based on the domestic nature of the assault. Mayhew will appear before a judge to have a bond set.
