Halifax County man charged in sex assault on minor

HALIFAX (WTVD) -- A Roanoke Rapids man is in custody after being charged with a sex offense involving a minor.

James William Tant, 50, turned himself in Wednesday in connection with an incident involving a 15-year-old reported in January.

An investigation by Detective B.C. Griffin of the Halifax County Sheriff's Office led to Tant being charged in the case. The victim was familiar with Tant, Griffin said.

Tant is charged with statutory rape, statutory sexual offense, and indecent liberties with a child.

He posted a $100,000.00 bond and has a March 30 court date in Halifax District Court.
