Former North Carolina Highway Patrol trooper killed in Robeson County fire

PEMBROKE, North Carolina (WTVD) -- Robeson County officials say a former North Carolina Highway Patrol trooper was found dead after a fire in his home north of Pembroke early Tuesday morning.

Firefighters got the call on Philadelphus Rd around 1 a.m. The home was fully involved with flames when they got there.

The body of 58-year-old Michael Wayne Chavis was found near the back of the home.

He leaves behind three children and a sister.
