RALEIGH, N.C. (WTVD) -- Bishop Michael Burbidge revealed the plans for the new Catholic cathedral to be built in Raleigh Tuesday.
The Holy Name of Jesus Cathedral will be constructed off Centennial Parkway, and will be the mother church for the entire 54-county Diocese of Raleigh.
Burbidge also spoke about the fundraising campaign at a lunch attended by reporters. The church is nearly to its $41 million goal to cover construction costs.
Architect James O'Brien designed the new building. His work includes other houses of worship in Virginia and North Carolina.
An artist's rendering shows a large building with a massive dome over the transept and a separate bell tower.
Officials plan to break ground on the new building later this year.
