DURHAM (WTVD) -- Emergency officials in Durham rescued two dogs that were trapped in a burning home overnight.
When firefighters arrived to the house on Maere Ct. just after midnight, they found the entire living area of the two-story home engulfed in flames.
Crews were able to rescue two dogs from the garage of the home, which had not been hit by the flames. No one was hurt.
Neighbors and relatives told officials that the homeowners were on a cruise.
It took firefighters 45 minutes to get the blaze under control, due in part to a burning natural gas leak. The fire was completely out four hours later.
Only the garage was left standing. It is unclear what sparked the blaze.
Meanwhile, authorities say one of the dogs is being cared for by neighbors, while the other is in the care of Durham County Animal Control.
