Fayetteville police arrest suspect in 2 store burglaries

FAYETTEVILLE, North Carolina (WTVD) -- Fayetteville Police have arrested a homeless man in connection with two business burglaries during the first week of December.

Elmer Ray Jones Jr., 51, of the Fayetteville area, has been charged with breaking and entering, felony larceny, and possession of stolen goods.

Jones was arrested Thursday.

Police said he is charged in the burglary of Dollar General at 3445 Ramsey St. in north Fayetteville around 3:30 a.m. on December 6. The investigation showed that the suspect broke a window in the front of the business, went inside and stole merchandise, including cigarettes and food.

The second burglary happened about 2:20 a.m. on December 9 at the Family Dollar store at 1322 Clinton Road in east Fayetteville. A front window was broken there as well, and unspecified merchandise stolen.

Jones is being held in the Cumberland County Detention Center on a $33,000 secured bond.
