DURHAM (WTVD) -- A judge ruled Monday that a Durham man accused of stabbing his father to death will be held in jail without bond.
Police say 23-year-old Donald Fields Jr. stabbed his father, 54-year-old Donald Fields Sr., over and over again on Sunday.
It happened just before 12:30 p.m. in the 3400 block of Marquis Drive.
When officers arrived, they found Fields Sr. with multiple stab wounds. He was taken to the hospital where he died a short time later, police said.
Authorities arrested Fields Jr. Sunday evening and charged him with murder.
"I am shocked absolutely just shocked that this is happened," Fields Sr.'s brother Alexander Fields told ABC11 after the incident.
He said he, along with the rest of the family, are grieving.
"My brother loved his son and his son loved him equally," Alexander Fields said. "This is just heartbreaking. It's gut wrenching."
During Fields Jr.'s first court appearance Monday morning, it was revealed that he has three prior convictions.
He is due in court again on July 19th for a probable cause hearing.
