Northwood High School in Pittsboro put on lockdown after teacher hears gunshot

PITTSBORO, North Carolina (WTVD) -- Northwood High School in Chatham County was briefly put on lockdown Monday morning.

Officials said a teacher at the school north of Pittsboro heard a single gunshot just before 8 a.m. which appeared to come from a wooded area near the school.

Sheriff's deputies searched the school grounds and found nothing.

No one was hurt.

Officials said a wooded area near the school is known to draw local hunters and hunting season just opened.
