Cumberland County nonprofit collecting costumes for foster kids

FAYETTEVILLE, North Carolina (WTVD) -- Happenin' in Haymount is hosting its largest charitable drive yet, Operation: Trick-or-Treat!

The non-profit is collecting new or gently used children's Halloween costumes to benefit the more than 800 foster children of Cumberland County through October 20.

Select Cumberland County Schools will be participating and collecting donations, as well as the following dropoff-collection-station locations:

Alma Easom Elementary, Vanstory Elementary, Fayetteville Academy, and we will be collecting Friday, October 20th at General Lee Park in Haymount from 6-10pm at our last public outdoor movie night event.

Who is the organization behind the collection? "Happenin' in Haymount" community organization; event is "Operation: Trick or Treat!"

How will the costumes be distributed? We actively meet with Cumberland County DHHS after the deadline for donations, and organize all donations by size. At which point DHHS reaches out to all foster homes and families privately, for security purposes, to ensure they are provided with what they personally need. Any additional costume donations we have will then be offered to surrounding counties as well.

What are you looking for? Specific sizes? Infant - 12 years old is our target

Where can people drop off costumes and how long will you have the collection? The deadline for donations is Friday, Oct 20. Donation centers include: Alma Easom Elementary, Vanstory Elementary, Fayetteville Academy.
