Pinehurst couple still has pet monkey

PINEHURST, N.C. (WTVD) -- A Moore County woman still has her pet monkey.

An attorney for Susan Mata filed a temporary restraining order to prevent Animal Control officers from removing Jake from her home.

Mata has had Jake since 2008.

A week ago, Moore County Animal Control officials gave her seven days to remove the animal from her home, saying keeping Jake violates a county ordinance on exotic and primate animals.

Mata says Jake is a service animal that helps with her physical disabilities after a wreck.
