100 kids get free bikes, helmets thanks to Whitley Law Firm
RALEIGH, N.C. (WTVD) -- Some children in need had a special afternoon on Friday, getting brand-new bikes and helmets.
It was all part of the Whitley Law Firm's "Whitley Wheels Forward" community event.
About 100 kids from pre-k to fifth grade got some new gear.
One of the highlights of the giveaway was watching children's faces light up when they realized they could choose a new bike and take it home.
To win a bike, parents or guardians had to enter a raffle.
Stacy Lawson entered for both her son and daughter. When they won, she couldn't believe it.
Lawson traveled all the way from Bunnlevel in Harnett County because her children have never had a new bike.
Her 7-year-old son, Hunter, said he couldn't wait to take his new wheels home.
"To ride and get better on this one," Hunter said. "Because I used to be riding with training wheels, but now, I'm going to try to not."
Stacy Lawson was appreciative of the opportunity and generosity the giveaway offered children.
"It's definitely like an independence kind of thing -- I can do it myself -- it's just another stage of childhood where they're learning and going out and falling down and getting back up," she said. "There's so many lessons in bike riding; I think that he's gonna love it."
