2 killed in fiery Sampson County crash: NCSHP

GARLAND, N.C. (WTVD) -- Two people lost their lives in a fiery crash Saturday night in Sampson County, North Carolina State Highway Patrol said.

The incident occurred around 6:30 p.m. on NC-411, also known as Harrells Highway, just east of Garland.

Authorities say a 2006 Toyota Sequoia was speeding eastbound when it veered off the road, crossed the centerline, and struck a ditch. The vehicle then collided with a power pole, bringing down power lines, before hitting a tree and bursting into flames.

NCSHP confirmed that the driver, 33-year-old Marcedo Allen McNeil of Stedman, and the passenger, 39-year-old Reginald K. Howard of Harrells, were both killed in the crash.

Due to the extensive fire damage, authorities say it's unclear whether either occupant was wearing a seatbelt.
