AMBER Alert cancelled: Child found safe
A woman is in custody and a child is with police more than 12 hours after an AMBER Alert in Durham.

DURHAM, N.C. (WTVD) -- A woman is in custody and a child is with police more than 12 hours after an AMBER Alert in Durham.

The AMBER Alert for 9-year-old Geon King was canceled shortly after 2 p.m. Friday. That came about an hour after ABC11 crews watched the Durham Police Department swarm a Durham home and take Mariah King into custody.

Mariah has since been charged with abduction of children and probation violation charges. She was booked in the Durham County Jail on a $70,000 bond.

Mariah is Geon's biological mother, but she does not have custody of the boy. Investigators said she abducted him Thursday evening from a home on South Benjamine Street.

Chopper 11 saw a handful of police cruisers swarm a home along Roxboro Street. They pulled the woman and the child from a silver truck in the driveway of the home.

Mariah was taken away in handcuffs. Police then took the child to the side; officers are working to reunite him with his family.
