MEBANE, N.C. (WTVD) -- Drivers along Interstate 40 can now spot billboards announcing the arrival of North Carolina's first Buc-ee's -- and the company has released a timeline for when the massive travel center will open.
Buc-ee's confirmed this week that its Mebane location is scheduled to open in the fourth quarter of 2027. The project, which broke ground with site prep work in late 2025, will include 120 gas pumps and one of the chain's signature oversized convenience stores.
The North Carolina Department of Transportation is also moving forward with roadway improvements near the site to accommodate expected traffic increases. Buc ee's is contributing to the cost of those upgrades, according to state transportation officials.
The Texas-based chain is known for its sprawling stores, clean restrooms and cult favorite snacks, drawing both road trippers and curious newcomers whenever a new location opens.
