Caniacs soaking up every moment ahead of Saturday' victory parade

RALEIGH, N.C. (WTVD) -- Thousands of Caniacs are expected to line the streets Saturday as the Carolina Hurricanes celebrate their 2026 Stanley Cup championship. It's a moment some fans say they've been waiting their whole lives to experience.

For many, the excitement has barely faded since the team clinched the title Sunday evening in Las Vegas.

Hannah Falgout, who traveled to see the win, said the celebration still feels unreal.

"It really felt like one of those moments that you're just going to remember for the rest of your life," she said.

Falgout said the days since the victory have been filled with joy as players brought the Stanley Cup around town.

"It's been really kind of almost a surreal week ever since we brought that Cup home," she said. "It's been fun to see the boys taking the Cup out all around town, showing it off. And I can't wait to see our community come together to really support the team that has worked so hard and really deserves a Cup this year."

She plans to join the crowds along the parade route as the Hurricanes continue their championship celebration.

Superfan and team hornblower Mike "Big Mike" Whiting is also preparing for the big day, with plans to ride in the parade.

"Oh, yeah. I have my horn," he said. "I'll probably be riding a scooter in the parade here instead of walking around the float... just soaking all of it in here with the Canes."

Whiting said he wants to savor every moment.

"I like to soak in all the moments I can and just be thankful, be happy, be in the moment, and this is right up there at the top."

Fans like Lauren Lankford, who attended Game 6 with her husband, say the celebration feels like an extension of the Hurricanes' tight-knit fan community.

"I've actually been following Big Mike. He's sending out a lot of alerts about where the Cup might be, where you can see the players. So that's just a whole 'nother level of the family feel," she said.

Even with the anticipation building, Whiting said much of Saturday's event remains a mystery.

"I don't think a lot of people know what's going to happen, including me," he said. "I just don't know. I'm just going to go with the flow."

While details remain limited, fans say that after years of waiting, the celebration is sure to be unforgettable.

The Hurricanes did announce on Wednesday afternoon that about 30 minutes after the parade ends, there will be a rally featuring players and management at City Plaza.
