Man identified after fatal stabbing on American Tobacco Trail

DURHAM, N.C. (WTVD) -- Durham Police have identified a man who was stabbed to death on the American Tobacco Trail near Fayetteville Street and Pilot Street.

It happened just before 4:15 p.m. on Monday.

Officers responded to a report of a stabbing behind a building at that intersection. They found 51-year-old Chesleigh Lyons suffering from a stab wound. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

The American Tobacco Trail remained closed in that area for more than seven hours as police conducted an investigation.

Police say there is no danger to the public and the stabbing does not appear to be a random attack on people using the trail.

No arrests have been made.

Anyone with information about this incident or who was on the trail between 3 p.m. and 4:30 p.m. is asked to please contact Investigator H. Nobles at (919) 560-4440 at ext. 29544 or CrimeStoppers at (919) 683-1200 or online.

The stabbing happened close to where two men were shot Sunday in the 400 block of E. Pilot Street.
